Furnitures fly, glass door, panes shatted at will: Fani powers on in Odisha
A series of dramatic footage have emerged, showing how Cyclone Fani wreaked havoc in Odisha, the eastern Indian state.
The coastal storm made landfall on May 3 at around 8 am and has ripped through the city since, causing widespread destruction.
Some of the worst affected places were educational institute, Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) and All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). Both the prestigious facilities are located in Bhubaneshwar, the state capital and bear the burnt of the storm.
Visuals showed glass doors and glass panes being shattered at will as the wind raged on.
One footage showed furniture being blown away by the wind while another showed a glass pane swaying in the wind before hitting a concrete structure and breaking into pieces.
Other footage also showed a petrol pumping station being destroyed as the ceiling caved in and an electric pole and a crane toppling, unable to withstand the velocity of the gale.
The calamity has also accounted for three people's lives.
Meanwhile, the storm had forced the evacuation of at least a million people in the state.
It also resulted in incessant rains in parts of neighbouring states- Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal.
The inclement weather forced the cancellation of hundreds of flights and trains as people have been advised to stay indoors.
Schools and collages in the affected states have been shut down.
The storm also resulted in power outages in Odisha.
Fani is expected to enter Bangladesh by May 4 midnight, though it would weaken by then.
