A video has emerged of two leopard cubs being rescued from a deep water tank. The incident took place in western India's Maharashtra state on May 2.

Visuals showed the two cubs, male, aged nine months, sitting on the bottom of the tank, looking for a way to get out of the facility. Seeing the cub, members of the rescue teams are seen lowering a ladder.

Though scared at first, the leopards realised the ladder was the only way out for them and slowly began climbing it after sun down.

Soon enough, the cubs were out of the tank and ran towards the forest for cover.

Reports said the rescue operation took two hours to complete and was carried out by a team of Wildlife SOS and the Maharashtra Forest Department. It took place outside Gulunchwadi village located in Belhe, Junnar city of Pune district.

The team was alerted of the leopards' presence after a late-night call from Range Forest Officer Bapu Yele.

The team went and found the pair was trapped inside a nearly 15-foot-deep water tank, behind a poultry farm.

A five-member team of trained rescuers from the NGO along with a group of forest officers rushed to carry out the rescue mission.

Dr. Ajay Deshmukh, Senior Veterinarian at the Wildlife SOS Manikdoh Leopard Rescue Center said “Wild animals are not accustomed to human contact, and often completely unaware of it. To avoid causing any additional stress to the leopards, we thought it best to aid them into finding their own way out of the water tank, with the help of the ladder.

"We are grateful to the villagers for their cooperation and to the Forest Department fo
