A dramatic video has emerged of a herd of elephant terrorising people in a village in north east India. The incident took place on May 7 along the Thepelaguri area in Assam's Hojai-Karbi Anglong district.

Reports said at least 30 elephants, including cubs, came down the hills and stayed into the residential area in search of food.

At least one person was injured during the incident, while a few temporary houses were destroyed by the herd. The herd also destroyed an Anganwadi centre and a kitchen belonging to a lower primary school in the area.

According to locals, the herd is yet to leave the place. A team of local police and forest department officials have reached the place and is trying to push the mammals back to their natural habitat.

Sources told Newlions Media such incident happens frequently in the area due to locals cutting down trees in order to build homes.
