A village in central India was briefly gripped by terror when a wild leopard snuck into the home of a local farmer, and was eventually rescued after a 12 hour panic today (May 7).

In Durgapur village, 12 kilometres from Tikamgarh district, Madhya Pradesh, a leopard entered the home of Ramesh Pal, a local farmer around 7:00 am local time.

The leopard is believed to have come from the nearby forest area to the village, and climbed to the second floor of Pal's house up a ladder and entered a room there.

Fortunately the house owner was able to lock the leopard inside and informed the forest department, who promptly dispatched a rescue team there who cordoned off the area.

As soon as the news spread, people gathered outside of Pal's house to see the rescue operation. For several hours leopard was seen sitting silently in its room but by the evening, around 7:00 pm, the forest team was successful to trap him inside cage.

According to officials leopard will be relocated to a different forest area. There were no reported injuries during this rescue.
