Woman abducts new born from hospital in southern India, arrested

A video has emerged of a woman walking away with a new born child after abducting the baby. The incident took place on May 5 in Coimbatore city of southern India's Tamil Nadu state.

Visuals showed the woman being flanked by a man and walking away with the child. She later takes an jumps inside an autorickshaw and leaves the hospital premises.

Her movements were captured on CCTV cameras placed inside the Pollachi Government Hospital, where the incident took place.

After the mother complained about the incident, police looked at the footage and nabbed the woman. The boy, subsequently, has been rescued too.

The perpetrator was identified as Mariammal, a resident of Udumalpet.

The mother, 30-year-old Devi, was asked by the woman to let her stay with her after the former gave birth to the child.

On Sunday, the perpetrator asked the mother if she could take the child to the doctor and upon obtaining her permission, used the opportunity to abduct the child.
