142-year-old mosque in Indonesia has a bent structure supporting the building
this is the Tarok mosque located in the suburbs of the city of Padang, precisely on the street tarok, Kuranji Village, Kuranji District, Padang City.
a mosque with a wooden building that was founded in 1872 on land that has a land area of 500 square meters still looks firmly established to this day. even though they have been around for less than 142 years, the Tarok mosque is still used by local residents to perform prayers and recitation.
this tarok mosque has a tiled roof structure with proper carving of traditional Minang with a gadang house which is characteristic of house building in the western Sumatran province.
besides hundreds of years old, the Tarok mosque has a unique building structure with 12 bent wooden pillars.
one of the tarok residents hidrul aswat said
"crooked the supporting pillars of the mosque as evidence of the expertise of carpenters who used to be able to take advantage of natural conditions that provide uneven wood to be used to erect a building
aswat added "in the days of the mosque Tarok used to function as a place of worship and to study the Islamic religion of Masjid Tarok. It was also often used as a place for customary ceremonies and in the courtyard of Surau to be used as a place to practice silat anak daerah"
