Dramatic footage has emerged from a newly engaged British couple who found themselves stranded in a car during a heavy blizzard in Thingvellir, Iceland on Thursday.

The video, captured from inside the car by Brook Mcallister, shows the moment he and fiancée Rebecca became trapped in the vehicle during a snowstorm caused by a low-pressure system termed a “weather bomb”.

Having proposed to Rebecca underneath the Northern Lights just days before, the couple were on their way back to the UK to celebrate with friends and family when the storm struck on Thursday night.

After travelling for 20km with zero visibility, the two decided to pull over, taking shelter next to another vehicle.

Thankfully, the pair were rescued by passing locals, who managed to guide them to safety by using car headlights as a beacon.
