CCTV footage has emerged from China showing commuters walking past a pile of money on the ground at a busy railway station in Liaoning Province.

At the start of the video a woman wearing a pink jacket can be seen dropping a bundle of notes totalling 3,000 yuan (around 484 US dollars) on the floor shortly after leaving the railway station’s ticket office.

Twenty people can be seen walking past the money in the following minute of footage and, although five people directly look at it, no one picks it up or reports it to police until one man finally pockets the cash and walks away.

According to a local news report, the woman who dropped the money was due to leave the city on the same morning the footage was captured earlier this month.

She reported the loss to local police who were able to return the money to the woman after tracking the man down through the CCTV footage.

Police believe it is possible that a number of people walked past the money without picking it up because they thought it might be a trick or a scam.
