A video has emerged of a baby elephant being rescued from a muddy pond in north east India. The incident took place on May 10 in the outskirts of Guwahati city, located in Assam state's Kamrup district.

Visuals showed rescuers hitting the hyacinth plants in order to scare the jumbo and get it out of the pool. Though it took time, the trick worked as the baby jumbo came out of the pool. However, it soon wandered off, but not for long as people rallied around it.

After a while, the elephant grew tired of the chase and was seen crossing the road quickly and enter its natural habitat, the forest.

The operation was carried out by a joint team of forest department and NDRF officials.

Though not sure, it is believed the elephant had entered the pool to cool itself, tired of the heat. However, the calf had underestimated the depth of the water and soon needed help.
