The Western Australian Tiger Snake (Notechis scutatus occidentalis) is one of the most venomous snakes in the world. Australian Tiger Snakes usually live close to wetlands, and their main prey is frogs. This snake was moving along the concrete edge of the verandah of the Gould League Centre, a natural history education facility at Herdsman Lake, one of Perth’s major wetlands. It moved from the grass onto the verandah, and then began moving along the bottom of the timber-clad wall of the centre, smelling by flicking its tongue and probing with its head to find a way inside. When it reached the doormat people inside noticed the snake, and someone began taking photographs of it with their phone. After a considerable time, the Tiger Snake moved away from the doors along the wall and finally disappeared.
