A police probe has started after the body of a man was found in a wheelie bin on a street in north London.

The grim discovery was made in Islington on Saturday afternoon, reportedly behind a Waitrose supermarket.

Detectives spent most of last night sweeping Tollington Road in the London Borough of Islington for clues.

Locals are said to be shocked at the find.

A Scotland Yard spokesperson said: “Officers are at a scene in Tollington Road Islington where a man’s body was found in a wheelie bin at approx 4pm on Saturday. Central North officers working to establish identity. Death being treated as unexplained at this stage and no arrest. Post-mortem to be arranged.”
