A giant leatherback sea turtle amazed beachgoers when it was seen crawling along the sand and back into the ocean. The majestic creatures was seen in Phang Nga province, southern Thailand, on December 17, 2018. The filmer said: ‘’We received the information at night that there was a giant sea turtle that had laid eggs. In the morning the turtle returned back to the sea. This was such a rare and beautiful sight. The turtles do not return for long periods of time, so when they do it is very special.’’ The leatherback turtle is the largest in the world and can weigh between 300kg and 500kg. They can swim tens of thousands of miles from their birthplace but always return to same area in order to reproduce. They are estimated to live between 30 years and up to 100 years. The filmer added: ‘’There were about 93 eggs laid. It’s incredible to imagine their future lives and that they too will return to the beach some day.’’
