On the 35th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster, the city is expecting an influx of tourists.

Ukraine International Airlines offered a sightseeing plane tour around the abandoned city on April 25, to mark the anniversary of the nuclear disaster.

File footage captured the ghost town of Pripyat in northern Ukraine with a desolate landscape that was once home to nearly 50,000 people.

The footage was captured in April 2019, showing an aerial view of the abandoned area. The city was made famous by the worst nuclear accident in history at the nearby Chernobyl Nuclear Facility in 1986.

Since the accident, the place has been deserted due to high amounts of radiation but, surprisingly, it does garner many tourists each year.

The filmer, who is an avid urban explorer, explained: "This was my best explore to date I have been to a lot of abandoned places some with tonnes of belongings left inside other good the architecture.

"Chernobyl will always be my best explore for a few reasons, the sheer size of the place and how much is abandoned.

"The fact that it is one of the biggest nuclear disasters ever then it is also one of the saddest places I was overwhelmed with sadness when walking around Pripyat."
