A helicopter pilot pulled off a series of impressive aerobatics over New York City's Hudson River, including flips and barrel rolls.

Pilot Aaron Fitzgerald, who grew up in Wenatchee in Washington state, performs a backflip, nosedives and a series of barrel rolls over the New York City skyline during the early hours of Saturday, May 18.

The ground footage clearly shows the Red Bull helicopter successfully performing a barrel roll with another aircraft trailing behind.

Fitzgerald also explains the roles of the dials and switches and how they affect the flight of the helicopter.

According to an online bio, Fitzgerald has performed and filmed for over 100 films and television shows and clocked up more than 8,500 air miles.
