Indonesian military were deployed on the streets of Jakarta as violence continue in the second day of post-election protests.

Footage shows police in riot gear firing what appear to be rubber bullets at a crowd of protesters on May 22.

Military can be seen arriving in a truck at the scene of the riots in Jakarta.

The violent protests broke out earlier this week after it was confirmed that President Joko Widodo won last month’s election.

At least eight people were killed and more than 700 injured in clashes this week, media reported.

Post-election riots in Indonesia continued.

Wednesday afternoon (May 22), a number of mobs clashed with police in the Tanah Abang area in Jakarta.

Demonstrators pelted stones and firecrackers, while the police held back mass movements by firing tear gas.

The situation began to be conducive after Indonesian soldiers arrived at the location.

Demonstations consider the soldiers is friends and police is enemies as they confront the masses using live ammunition.

Until Thursday afternoon May 23, 2.35 p.m. the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Anies Rasyid Baswedan, released the death toll increased to 8 people and 737 injured.
