A trapped foal was untangled from tumbleweeds down a huge ditch by two caregivers in the Tehachapi Mountains of California.

The rescuers took notice when they saw a lone horse in the distance, a mother horse that turned out to be looking over her newborn foal. The filmer said "just the tips of his ears [were] visible" during the rescue on April 12.

We were visiting the Oak Creek Wild Horses in Tehachapi, CA Diana Palmer, their caregiver noticed a lone horse in the distance. As horses are herd animals, we knew something wasn't right and went to investigate.

We found that her newborn foal had rolled into a deep ravine.

He was trapped, swallowed in thick tumbleweeds with just the tips of his ears visible. Demonstrating the innate patience and trust that horses and humans have shared for centuries, the wild mare watched and waited as Steve Auman worked to free her fragile foal.
