At least five killed as fire breaks out in commercial building in western India; over 40 stranded inside

A dramatic footage has emerged of teenagers jumping from the top floor of a building after noticing fire break out. The incident took place on May 24 in Surat city of India's western Gujarat state.

At least five children have reportedly died while more than 100 have sustained injuries. The injured were immediately rushed to a hospital. Around 40 people are said to be stranded inside.

Visuals showed people jumping fro the top floor of the building to evade the inferno as thick smoke billowed.

One person was seen in fire as he jumped while another came down along with a flex board.

A large number of people had gather near the building to witness the scene

Reports said the fire broke out while the teenagers were attending classes.

Meanwhile, locals have blamed the administration for their lackadaisical attitude. They said the fire tenders reached there late despite getting information as soon as the fire broke out.
