These football fans made the best of gridlock traffic on the M1 by kicking around a plastic water bottle and using sweaters as goal posts.

The filmer said around ten people joined in to form the teams as well as "Derby fans were singing to each other and the young girls were practising their moves around the parked cars," during the traffic jam on May 27.

The filmer added: "The game ended after about 10/15 minutes when it started raining heavily and everyone returned to their vehicles. Some of the young girls continued to dance around in the rain."

I dont know the incident of the incident on the M1 between junction 22 and 23 that caused the motorway to close.

Traffic had been stationary for a while and people were getting out of their cars to stretch their legs. The accident was too far away to see. I think it was at least a mile away.

There were lots of fellow Derby County fans there travelling home from the play off final defeat at Wembley, as well as groups of female dancers and cheerleaders (children and teenagers - not sure where they were travelling from).

There was a surprisingly positive atmosphere considering the circumstances. The Derby fans were singing to each other and the young girls were practicing their moves around the parked cars. A couple of the fans jumped over the crash barrier between us and the southbound lanes which had been completely empty for a while. They put down their jumpers and novelty black and white jester style hats as goal posts and started having a kick around with the plastic bottle. I think around 10 people joined in to form two teams. I’m not sure what the score was but I think Derby won this one.

The emergency services and recovery vehicles were using the hard shoulder to reach the incident. This is why people were gathered towards the middle of the road and the central barrier. I don’t recall seeing any police near the stationary cars, only driving towards the incident.
