A hilarious video has emerged from China of an ostrich running down a motorway in Zhejiang Province on Monday.

According to local news reports, the ostrich belongs to a local villager who acquired a pair of ostriches – one male, one female – in March.

The owner told a local newspaper that the “husband and wife” had been having a quarrel in the hours before the male ostrich decided to make a break for it.

The two metre tall male bird, which weighs around 75kg, can be seen in CCTV footage breaking through the barrier of a tollbooth before tearing down the motorway.

Police officers was called to round up the ostrich but were unable to catch it so, instead, settled for ambling alongside the bird until it ran out of energy and they were able to guide it off the road.
