A driver in Maryland made a lucky escape as a tornado bulldozed through the trees in front of him, halting traffic and causing the road to close.

The filmer was on his way to celebrate his anniversary when a tornado warning notified him to seek shelter as hail slammed the dashboard of the car and trees started to snap on May 30.

According to the filmer: "I really was trying to Inch over to the guardrail so if the wind pushed my vehicle, it would push me into the guardrail and not into the ditch."

I left work early to go home because it's my anniversary. As I was driving down MD 32, my phone which is mounted on my dashboard gave me the tornado warning seek shelter message. I was in the middle of really nowhere there's really no I couldn't go forward or backwards and not knowing where the storm was I just kept going straight. The weather started to get pretty bad so I just went ahead and started recording on my cell phone. It started to get really hard to see I started seeing trees falling which you can see in the video. The cars in front of me all stopped and pulled over. That's when I was able to really start looking around as much as I could. Hail started hitting my car and I really was trying to inch over to the guardrail so if the wind was to push my vehicle it would push me into the guardrail and not into the ditch. Before I knew it the weather over and I could get a better view of around what was around me. The trees were all snap right in front of me and I'm quite a few trees were down. a service vehicle came from the other side of the road and told me I needed to turn around because I couldn't get through.then I turned around and cook four and a half hours to get home because all the roads had essentially been shut down because of trees falling on them.
