Citizens of Hong Kong gathered in Victoria Square today (June 4) to remember the victims of the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre.

A flame dubbed the "Torch of Democracy" was ignited to signify the ongoing struggle for civil liberties in China.

The crowd can be seen lighting candles.

The filmer explained: "On the 30th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square Massacre, Hong Kong put on its annual commemoration of the event.

"Here, the torch of democracy, symbolising the continued fight for labor rights, a free press, and individual freedoms, makes its way through the crowd of a predicted 150,000 people."

This year has been especially relevant to Hong Kong as the government tries to push through a legislative bill that would effectively allow Chinese authorities to extradite anyone in the territory that they have deemed as criminals under Chinese law.
