A video has emerged of a deer being rescued from a muddy pond in southern India. The incident took place on June 8 in Kailasakere of Siddapur village, located in Udupi district of Karnataka state.

Visuals showed a deer unable to free itself after it fell inside a muddy pond. It shows a man entering the pond and using a rope to force the deer to move. Next it uses the rope to tie the deer's body, as others near the bank used the other end to pull at the quadruped. When it failed to move, the man went near it and tried to pull it.

However, he too was unable to move the deer and another man stepped in.

The two men pulled the deer and somehow managed to get it out of the pond.

Officials said they were alerted by locals when they spotted the deer inside the pond.

The deer is said to be five years old.

The operation was carried out by a team of locals and forest department officials.
