A herd of ravenous wild elephants stormed into a village destroying houses and stealing fruit in the middle of the night.

Residents in Wang Nam Khieo district were terrfied after five wild elephants invaded the village in Nakhon Ratchasima, northeastern Thailand.

The herd, led by the strongest pair known as “Jao-Nga-Bin” and “Jao-Nga-Biang”, were walking out from Khao Yai National Park on Saturday (15/06) night before raiding houses looking for fruits.

Villagers attempted to scare them away by making loud noises but the elephants went on crushing their houses, stealing coconuts, mangoes, bananas and trampling on their plantations.

Orathai Chotklangchang said that this was not the first time his belongings and plants were ruined by the animals.

He said: “They destroyed my three water jars. They ate and stomped on many sugarcane, coconuts, and banana trees on my farm.

“They become more aggressive and they aren’t afraid of humans anymore. At first, there was only one or two of them coming to the village but now it’s more like 12. I don’t know how long we have to deal with this.”
