A video has emerged of an elephant straying away from the forest and entering a residential area, triggering a chaos in southern India's Karnataka state.

The incident took place on June 19 in Sakleshpur town in Hassan district of the state.

Visuals showed a group of locals gathering to film the pachyderm after spotting it entering the area.

However, seeing the group, the adult male gave charge, triggering the chaos.

Fortunately, it just charged a few metres and soon resorted to a stroll.

The elephant was seen taking a left turn and moving towards a water body.

Soon after, it took a dip.

It is believed, the extreme temperature, which prevails during the summer months in India, may have led the pachyderm to move out of the forest in search of food and water.
