A four-year-old girl had a miraculous escape after a truck crashed into her grandfather.

Murugesan, 65, a resident of Periyar near Ariyalur of southern India had gone to buy medicine with his granddaughter.

A CCTV camera at the shop filmed him getting on to his moped to go back home as the little girl waited for him to start the vehicle.

Suddenly, a truck hit him from behind and dragged him along with his moped for a few metres.

The girl, who saw the oncoming vehicle, managed to get out of the way and dodge it narrowly.

People in the vicinity rushed the injured man to a local hospital and doctors referred him to a bigger hospital in Trichy, where he is recuperating.

Police have registered a hit and run case against the errant truck driver.
