A woman suffered serious burn injuries after her saree caught fire from a candle at a temple in southern India.

The incident happened on June 17 in Hubballi city in the south Indian state of Karnataka.

Shocking footage shows the woman desperately trying to douse the flames engulfing her saree with her hands.

Several people rush to the site to help the woman who can be seen running into the temple.

The woman was later rushed to a hospital nearby where she is recovering from serious injuries.

A woman suffered burn injuries after her saree caught fire from a candle while she came out after offering prayers at Vishwanatha temple in Karnataka's Hubballi city on 17th June at 12:40 PM . The woman, identified as Chaya, has been admitted to the KIMS hospital where she is underwent treatment and later discharged. In a CCTV footage the woman can be seen her saree caught fire and she shouting for help after her saree caught fire. Hearing her scream, several people rushed to the site and tried to douse the blaze. She was later rushed to the hospital.
Earlier in January, a similar incident was reported from Kolkata where a 50-year-old woman sustained burn injuries after her saree caught fire from a candle while she was offering prayers at Karunamoyee Kali temple. Following the incident, the temple authorities prohibited the use of candles, incense sticks, and other inflammable materials in the premises.
