A shocking incident has come to light where a toddler was attacked by at least four stray dogs in northern India's Uttar Pradesh state.
The incident, captured on CCTV cameras, took place in Shiv Bala nath Nagar in the state's Mathura district on June 19.
Visuals showed the child walking out of his house and is encountered by a pack of four stray dogs.
At least three dogs attack the toddler, while the fourth waits for a while and joins them.
The child is dragged by the quadrupeds before two people run towards the dogs and chase them away.
A woman, later identified as the mother, picks up the distressed toddler and takes her home. A few more people are seen running towards the spot and have a discussion.
Speaking about the incident, Sapna Mittal, the child's mother said, "My child was playing outside, when the dogs attacked him. I was alerted of the incident after hearing him cry out loud."
The mother has urged government officials to act and remove the stray dogs from the area.
Amit Mittal, the child's father too echoed his wife's sentiments. "Stray dogs have been terrorising us. Their numbers are on the rise. Forget a toddler, even those who are seven or eight years of age are scared to venture out alone."
Ruing lack of action form the government, he said, "Despite telling them repeatedly, no action has been initiated. I don't want anyone to face such an incident."
Rajesh Gupta, a member of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has promised action. "The stray dogs will be moved from the area by a day or two," Gupta said, when asked about the incident.
