Ten school children were injured after their 'drunk' bus driver crashed on the way to morning classes.

The youngster all aged between six and 15 were travelling to lessons when the yellow clipped a motorcycle and lost control.

It overturned and landed on the roadside in Phetchabun province, central Thailand, on June 28.

Ten students and a teacher were taken to hospital with injuries. A 15-year-old boy suffered a broken collar bone and a broken hand.

The driver Banyanon Anang, 39, sustained minor injuries.

Banyanon was interviewed at the scene by police who found he was four times over the legal limit.

The driver told them that a Honda motorcycle pulled out in front of the bus so he swerved and hit the brakes.

He said: ''The motorcycle came so close to the front of the bus, I had to brake hard and skid to the side.''

The motorcycle rider, Panupong Yuwannawanich, 16, was knocked off his bike and suffered minor injuries.

Captain Anucha Poolyod, Deputy Inspector of the district Bueng Sam Phan Police Station, said the bus driver was over the legal alcohol limit. He said: ''The bus driver was given an alcohol test. It appeared that the amount of alcohol in the bloodstream was 201 milligrams, which exceeds the law requiring no more than 50 milligrams.

''The driver finally confessed that he drank with his friends before the accident.

''Initially, police officers charged him with reckless driving causing serious injury to others. And he was later charged with drunk driving and detained to pursue legal proceedings.''
