Supporters of former English Defence League leader Tommy Robinson have dispersed from the Old Bailey's vicinity after Robinson was sentenced today (July 11).

Robinson has been sentenced to nine months in prison after being found guilty of contempt of court last week.

Robinson recorded a live broadcast during a reporting ban on a 2018 child grooming case at Leeds Crown Court.

Legions of Robinson's supporters turned out in support of the public figure and it was reported that violence erupted when news broke of the sentence resulting in projectiles being thrown at City of London police officers outside the court.

The filmer, who works around the corner from the Old Bailey, told Newsflare: "The crowd were especially vocal and were surrounded by police.

"[They were] quite aggressive with inflammatory placards."
