Monsoon Mayhem: Heavy floods wreak havoc in north-eastern India, topple structures; water-level crosses danger mark in many areas

This alarming visual shows a mosque collapsing as the water level in many rivers neared the danger mark in north-eastern India.

The video of the same shows the structure toppling into the river, due to the heavy waterflow caused by floods, triggered by torrential downpour.

The incident took place at Fakirganj area in Assam state's Dhubri district on July 15.

Officials said that many animals have moved to the highlands and the forest officials are on high alert.

Nearly 40 per cent of the park's area is under water.

Authorities have imposed speed restrictions for vehicles moving on National Highway-37 that skirts the park's southern boundary to prevent animals from being hit while crossing the highway in search of higher grounds and food.

Both the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have rescued more than 7,800 people by July 14.

According to reports, authorities are running 327 relief camps and distribution centres in 24 districts, where 16,596 people are taking shelter.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal held a video conference with senior officials of different government departments on July 11, to review the flood situation and directed them to remain fully alert and be prepared to tackle the situation promptly and effectively.

The chief minister also reviewed the status of relief camps, distribution of relief material to marooned people and measures adopted for safety and security of animals in the flood-affected districts
