I do, I do! Villagers organise marriage ceremony of frogs to appease rain gods in central India
These bizarre visuals capture the moment villagers organising the marriage ceremony of frogs according to traditional Hindu rituals in central India.
The incident took place in Seoni city of the same district in Madhya Pradesh state on July 18.
Seoni district has been hit by severe drought for the past few years. It has not received rains of late and is experiencing severe water scarcity.
The fascinating visuals show the two frogs, understandably a male and a female, seated on a palanquin, decorated by leaves and flowers.
The palanquin is carried by little boys, completely soaked in water, and naked.
As the bride and the groom were carried along on the streets, people started celebrating by dancing.
Visuals also show some men pouring water on the attendees.
The people, including youth and children, are seen wildly grooving to music during the wedding procession.
The ritual was organised in order to appease the rain gods and subsequently bring rains to the region.
Although rare, frog weddings are not unheard of in India.
Earlier last month, a marriage between two frogs was solemnised in order to please the rain gods for bountiful rainfall in the region in Karnataka state’s Udupi district.
In June 2018, villagers of Bundelkhand region in Madhya Pradesh, married off two frogs as per traditional Hindu rituals to pray for rainfall in the area.
