A stray bull has been rescued from a deep pit it fell into in northern India.

Rescuers from the forestry department and fire brigade used an earth mover to save the creature in Fatehabad on 19 July 2019.

The 6m deep pit, which was in danger of collapsing, had been dug as part of construction work.

An earthmover laboured cautiously to bring up a stray bull, which was trapped in a pit.

The bull fell into the 20-feet deep pit, which had been dug up for some construction work, while looking for food in Fatehabad in northern India on July 19.

As the animal fell in, the mud wall of the pit caved in, burying it partially. A few men in the vicinity heard its distressed cries and found that the animal was badly stuck inside.

The loose walls of the pit also threatened to cave in further anytime and bury the animal fully.

They called the forest department and fire brigade officials, who came in promptly and started the rescue work. They brought in an earthmover with a well-trained driver, who gently dug the earth around the animal and freed it. He also carved a path to get out of the pit.

The stray bull walked up on its own without any major injury.
