Refugees in Greece are occupying railway carriages, creating an illegal refugee camp next to active train lines at Thessaloniki railway station.

The refugees, believed to be mostly young men from Pakistan, Morocco and Algeria, are said to number in their hundreds.

Their presence has unnerved many locals, concerned about associated crime, rubbish, and danger, to the refugees and themselves.

While the authorities say they will take action, there is concern over where the refugees will go next.

Local residents show off anxiety as their region has become a vast migrant hotspot with hundreds of immigrants, mostly youngsters under the age of 30, jump walls and fences to enter the depot area and walk on active train lines. "Is about drugs, brawls take place regularly between immigrants staying in the wagons, about which gang will control drug trafficking, they hide them in the wagons and at places around the station" says a man who lives next to the train depot and not want to show his face on camera. As footage shows recently a fire broke up in one of the wagons destroying it in total, forcing immigrants sleeping inside to jump out of the smokes.

The area has turned into an outbreak of pollution from the tons of garbage leaving the trains, while residents report that the already high crime rate has hit "red". It is estimated that in abandoned wagons that are parked, there are more than 500 immigrants on a daily basis.

Greek authorities are about to remove immediately the wagons from that point, as many immigrants, who in most of them do not have valid papers, have been assembled, causing problems as people are abandoned to their own destiny.

The big question is what happens to immigrants. These are Algerian, Moroccan and Pakistani people who continue to come to Greece through the Evros and the Aegean islands. Especially those who arrive from Evros end up and "settle" immediately in Thessaloniki. Usually after their first arrest, which they themselves pursue, they apply for asylum, knowing that the procedures are delayed. By submitting the request, they get a document that allows them for a short period of three months to stay in Greece to examine their request. Usually, this period is renewed as the services fail to look into it. When rejected at first instance, the migrant is again taken for a period of legal residence, as long as he has recourse to the second degree.
