Whats up? Heads up... Upright World Records 2014 - Making Skydiving History
My name is Zachary R Sabel I am a full time professional skydiver and body flight coach. Follow me on YouTube and connect with me on my website: www.zrsbodyflight.com From November 20-22, some of the best skydivers from all around the world, UK, Russia, Australia, Canada, Mexico, Germany, all came together to attempt a formation that had never been done before. The group of about 60 skydivers converged on Skydive Arizona to attempt to build the largest Head Up World Record. Many in the skydiving community said that this could never be done. Head Up Body Flight is the the most difficult position to balance while being able to build formations. In head up flying, we are balancing Mass over lift, so you are battling aerodynamics the entire time. Its kinda like riding a wheelie on a bike, you always want to tip over, or never get the wheel off the ground. But I have seen people ride a wheelie for miles, so, just the same for head up flying, once you have the mastered the balance you are free to do amazing things. On day 2, Nov 21 2014, we attempted the new Upright World Record of 44 people. To declare the formation, every person needs to be in their specific slot that has been presented to the International judges prior to each skydive. After a few failed attempts we finally had a qualifying photo to present to the judges. After an hour of deliberating, the judges would announce that we had made Skydiving History and built an Upright World Record of 44! Whats Next?? Lets go Bigger! The following day we decided to build an even larger formation. We were going to add people from the B team to create a formation of 52 people. After a couple failed attempts we finally built a formation meeting the qualifications to submit it to the judges. The judging was taking quite a long time, so as a group of skydivers, we wanted to keep our energy level up, so we decided to just go up and try it again. We didn't want to wait, we wanted to prove without a doubt that we could build this formation. We went back up and Nailed it, flying the formation peacefully together as one unit for over 3 seconds holding hands falling out of the sky at 170 mph. It was Amazing. Once we landed, we knew that we had set a new World Record with that jump. By the time we were back in the hanger, the judges had made their decision on the previous jump that was under question. We had set the Upright World Record of 52 on that jump. So essentially we went up on back to back skydives to build that 52 Upright World Record. Setting 3 world records in a two day period is like a dream come true. The vibe and feel of the event was amazing, we had some of the best organizers in the world to mastermind these attempts so we would be successful. We had Red Bulls Amy Chmelecki , Sara Curtis, Mike Carpenter, and Ryan Risberg. Outstanding Videographers: in Jason Peters, Trunk from Hypoxic, and Greg Gasson to capture the event.
