Japan rice paddy art celebrates new imperial era of Reiwa
A rice field has been colored to celebrate the Year of the Boar and the country's new imperial era (July 5) in Nyū-gun, Japan.
Drone footage shows the rice paddy art in Echizen, showing wild boars and Chinese characters that read "Reiwa gannen (first year of Reiwa)."
Emperor Naruhito’s reign is called Reiwa and began on May 1 after the abdication of Emperor Akihito. Japan's Foreign Ministry translates Reiwa as "beautiful harmony."
Different-colored rice seedlings were used to create the rice field art, captured.
Locals will harvest the field in the middle of September. After harvest, the locals will produce "sake" (rice wine) and sticky rice cakes. They have been creating rice paddy art at the spot for more than 10 years.
2019 is the Year of the Boar according to the Chinese calendar.
