Watch: Wild elephant charges at people, chases them off, topples jeep of forest officials in southern India

In yet another terrifying instance of human-animal conflict, a group of people were chased by a wild elephant in southern India.

Visuals of the incident show the angry pachyderm pushing aside a jeep, while people- including men, women and children- are seen running helter-skelter for their lives.

The incident took place near Panamaram village in Kerala state's Wayanad district on July 11.

Visuals show the jumbo making an entrance from the forest area near the street. A woman can be heard saying that the animal is reluctant to cross the road due to the presence of the people.

However, some of the people anticipate the attack and screams to other commuters standing nearby to vacate the spot as soon as possible.

One of the videos shows a large crowd running for their lives as the wild elephant comes running towards them. It seems that they have no clue regarding how the animal entered the road.

One man can be heard saying that he was extremely terrified and was still in shock.

According to reports, a herd of wild elephants was spotted for the past few days near the residential areas at Pathiri South section of the South Wayanad forest division.

Locals informed the forest officials regarding the same and they chased off the tuskers in jeeps.

However, one of the wild elephants entered the Punchavayal-Dasanakkara stretch and chased off the locals.

When the forest officials tried to chase the pachyderm in their jeep, the irate jumbo attacked their vehicle. The Jeep's front part was completely damaged.

Meanwhile, three wildlife officials, who were attempting to flee from the Jeep, were injured in the incident. They were rushed to a hospital.

Locals and forest officials later chased off the parade of elephants into the forests.

In a similar incident that took place on July 5, a Jeepful of tourists were attacked by a parade of wild elephants near Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary in Wayanad.
