Film showing a herd of Red Deer (Cervus elaphus) Stags that has settled near the river Dee and Clunie Water as the rivers pass near Braemar in the Cairngorms National Park, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. This was filmed early in the morning before they move away up the hills.

A deer’s antlers start as small lumps of tissue at the tip of the pedicle, but as they grow, they are covered with a soft fur-like covering, described as being ‘velvet’. Red Deer stag’s antlers can grow at the rate of one inch per day, but will break off after the rutting season finishes. Many of these are mature stags with many tines on their antlers, including Royal Stags with 12 points or tines.
