Wet Kangaroos graze while frogs serenade them

Western Grey Kangaroos (Macropus fuliginosus) are abundant in Yanchep National Park in Western Australia. Western Grey Kangaroos are most active from late afternoon until the early morning, and rest during the day in the shelter of shrubs and trees. While feeding, most often on grass, Western Grey Kangaroos move slowly forward with an unusual ‘five-footed’ gait, using their tails and forearms to prop while swinging the huge hind feet forward. Loch McNess in the park partly filled after rain in July, and the humid, overcast conditions brought out the Kangaroos to feed, as well as stimulating frogs in the lake to begin calling. Several Kangaroos grazed on the grasses and sedges growing on the bed of the lake, and two females took the easier option of eating the mown grass on the lawn of the picnic area. The Kangaroos were serenaded by the calls of Banjo Frogs (Limnodynastes dorsalis) and Rattling Froglets (Crinia glauerti).
