A damaged church in Batanes, the Philippines, this morning after an earthquake killed at least eight people and injured dozens more.
People were sleeping inside the church at the time but they were all able to escape unhurt following the back-to-back quakes.
Local resident Dominic De Sagon Asa said: ''There were people sleeping inside when the earthquakes were felt. Bricks were falling down from the ceiling. Everybody ran outside. Nobody was killed in this building but some people were injured.''
The back-to-back quakes rocked the the northern Philippines just after 4am local time.
A 5.9-magnitude earthquake struck the Batanes archipelago, the US Geological Survey reported.
Around 20 minutes later, a second 4.5 magnitude quake hit the same area near Itbayat.
Footage from a village in Batanes shows the devastation caused to local stone buildings, with a church collapsing.
Mr Ricardo Jalad, executive director of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), said eight people had died as of 9am in the morning.
He said they were hit by rubble and debris.
