A suspected gas explosion destroyed a flat in south London this morning (July 31) resulting in four fire engines attending the scene.

The flat in Earlsfield blew up at around 7:30 am resulting in debris flying everywhere and two men being taken to hospital.

The filmer told Newsflare: "I woke up to the explosion at around 7:30 am and thought a bus had crashed into my flat.

"[I] came downstairs and then ran outside only to be told to clear the street and went back home.

"[Then I] came back upstairs and just carried on watching from my flat window."

London Fire Brigade said: "Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters have been called to a suspected gas explosion on Garratt Lane in Earlsfield.

"A ground floor flat in a three-storey block has been affected. A 25m cordon is in place as a precaution.

"Firefighters rescued one man from the affected flat. He has been taken to hospital. A man from an adjacent flat left before the Brigade arrived and has also been taken to hospital.

"The Brigade was called at 0726. Fire crews from Tooting, Croydon and Wimbledon fire stations are at the scene.

"The cause is not known at this stage."
