Hundreds of Hongkongers living in Canada have gathered in cities across the country to show their solidarity with the anti-extradition bill protests which have swept the autonomous territory in southeastern China.

This clip shows a gathering in Markham, near Toronto on Saturday afternoon.

The protests began in March in opposition to an extradition bill that would have sent some suspects to mainland China for trial but have continued despite the government's decision to drop the contentious legislation.

We Hongkongers in Canada are organizing a joint rally in solidarity with HONG KONG that will take place on August 3 and 4 in seven major cities: Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg, Halifax, Ottawa, Montreal, and yes, TORONTO!

Hong Kong has been undergoing incredibly difficult time since June 9: a large-scale demonstration that involved 1.03 million Hong Kong citizens marching on the streets against the controversial extradition bill with China. One scene of police brutality after another have made us feel our hometown has been sent asunder. The ongoing protests in Hong Kong have five major demands to which the government has never responded:

We invite all of you Torontonians from different backgrounds to join us in this rally: STAND WITH HONG KONG. Strive for justice, freedom and democracy.

Dress code: Black. Feel free to bring signs.

Several violent incidents have been reported in recent support HK rallies and demonstrations in several overseas location. Please take personal safety as your top priority, and be cautious of potential harrassment and violence.
