Teachers retrieve submerged belongings after flash floods cover high school in Vietnam
The video captures the moment when high school teachers were forced onto high ground after floodwaters submerged their school on August 8, in Lao Cai Province, Vietnam.
According to the teacher who filmed this, they were working indoors when the sound of running water was heard on the mountain and floodwaters streamed into the school.
People ran to the second floor of the school and to other high ground to escape, and within 10 minutes the waters had risen to more than one-metre-deep.
This area is known to have heavy rain and flash floods from the mountains behind the school.
After floodwaters began to recede, people moved flooded motorbikes out of water-logged areas of the school.
Fortunately, the high school students were on summer vacation, with only teachers who had come to school for work.
After the flood, dozens of motorbikes were damaged, school tables and equipment were completely destroyed, but otherwise no one was hurt.
