CCTV captured the terrifying moment a huge landslide almost swallowed a man, while his mother was buried.

The man's wife and child were also buried when their nearby home was hit.

The incident took place on 9 August in Kottakkunnu, a popular tourist destination in Kerala state's Malappuram district.

CCTV footage of the incident shows the man, holding an umbrella, talking to an older woman believed to be his mother. Seconds later the wall of mud rushes towards them.

Police say rescue operations are continuing.

Dozens of people have been killed in rain-related incidents in Kerala in the last three days.

This frightening visual shows a man narrowly escaping from mudslides, while his mother is trapped under the deluge in southern India.

The incident took place on Aug. 9 at Kottakkunnu, a popular tourist destination in Kerala state's Malappuram district.

CCTV footage of the incident shows the man, holding an umbrella, walking unsuspiciously. He is seen talking to an older woman on the way-later understood to have been his mother. As they both look behind them, they see a mudslide emerge out of nowhere.

Both of them un for their lives, but she fades into the falling mud and trees falling along the way while he somehow manages to reach the corner of a building.

The man has apparently escaped, but his mother – the woman in the video, his wife and toddler child, who were still inside their home just a road below, were trapped under the mudslide.

The woman has been identified as Sarojini.

Meanwhile, police said that the rescue operations are being conducted in the area for the missing people.

At least 28 people have died in rain-related incidents across Kerala in the last three days.

From Malappuram alone, nine dead bodies have been recovered.

It is feared that around 40 people are trapped underneath the remains of the Bhoothathan-Muthappan mountain, that collapsed in a landslide in Nilambur, Malappuram.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rains in the state till August 14.

Red alerts have been issued in Idukki, Malappuram, Wayanad and Kozhikode districts.
