A zebra makes a back scratcher out of a tree stump, wobbling its bum to get rid of a stubborn itch.

A safari group were travelling through Kruger National Park on August 10 when they spotted the erratic behaviour of the animal, saying: "The zebra’s movements were funny to watch.

"Normally one would see elephant, buffalo, rhino or warthog scratching themselves against an object, but a zebra relieving itself from a serious itch is not something you see very often."

While driving through the Kruger National Park on a safari, we came across a herd of zebra, casually grazing close to the road. We stopped to watch these incredibly unique creatures going about their daily eating duties. While majority of the zebras had their heads down while grazing, our attention was suddenly drawn to one zebra showing some erratic behavior with his head up in the air. Eventually we realized what was going on. This particular zebra was standing in front of a tree stump, vigorously scratching his head against this stump. The zebra’s movements were funny to watch. Normally one would see elephant, buffalo, rhino or warthog scratching themselves against an object, but a zebra relieving itself from a serious itch is not something you see very often. After the head scratch, the zebra had to sort out his neck and the adamant scratching continued. After the neck scratch we thought the zebra was satisfied but to our amazement, the zebra still had the left back side of his body to take care of. The zebra stood next to the stump and intensely scratched the side of his body, making for a whole ten minutes of entertaining viewing. It looked like the zebra finally rid itself of every itch on its body and slowly moved off to catch up with the rest of the herd.
