This is the dramatic moment a wild elephant strayed into a residential area located in an eastern Indian village, triggering chaos.

The incident took place on Aug 7 near Ghrita Kham village of West Bengal state's Jhargram district.

Visual showed the pachyderm wandering inside the village while people tried to drive it away.

The adult male elephant was also seen satiating its hunger by eating straws used to cover the roof of a residential house.

Visual showed the elephant being chased away by villagers, who grew tensed about the pachyderm's presence.

Fortunately, no one was hurt during the incident.

Reports said the elephant strayed away from the surrounding forest.

Earlier this year, at least one person was killed after villagers pelted stone at a mother elephant and its newborn calf.

The angry, distressed mother charged at the youth and killed it, forcing other pachyderms to come of the forest, resulting in a man-human conflict.
