An Indian Air Force helicopter rescued 125 people trapped by severe flooding in Gujarat in western India on Monday.

Floodwaters had surrounded their village in Kutch District and cut off all escape routes.

They were forced to huddle together on the only dry land they could find on a section of the Naraa-Hajipur Road.

With foodwaters rising all the time, Gujarat State Emergency Operation Centre officials made a distress call to the Indian Air Force, which sent an Mi-17 V5 helicopter to rescue them.

The pilot deftly landed the chopper on the fragile road and took all the stranded villagers to safety.
