This is the remarkable moment a conservationist makes rumbling sounds to reassure a nervous elephant over his presence in the Mount Elgon forest, Kenya.

Veteran wildlife biologist Ian Redmond OBE, renowned for his work with great apes and elephants, said: [The elephant] displays with bluff charges but eventually calms down and continues feeding."

The male elephant, named Nick because of the nick in his trunk-tip, is one of the famous cave-elephants in the area and has been studied by Redmond since 1980.

Redmond, who was born in Malaysia and grew up in Beverley in Yorkshire, introduced Sir David Attenborough to the gorillas in 1978 for the BBC's "Life on Earth" series and taught actress Sigourney Weaver to grunt like a gorilla for her role in the 1988 film "Gorillas in the Mist." He counts the late Dr Dian Fossey as a mentor.
