A video has emerged of a crocodile being rescued from a canal in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.

The incident took place on Aug. 16 near Narayangarh city, located in Mandsaur district of the state.

Visual showed forest officials and locals trying to spot the crocodile, in an effort to get it out of the canal.

Later, an excavator was rushed to the spot and used to dig up the canal.

After taking out a large quantity of mud and water, the crocodile was finally seen.

A few officials entered the waterbody and managed to capture it. They then tied the reptile with ropes and fished it out of the canal.

The crocodile was later translocated and released in Chambal river.

Officials said they were informed about the reptile's presence at around 12:30 p.m. Soon, a team of forest officials rushed to the spot.

When the crocodile could not be traced, an excavator was called in and the canal was nearly emptied and the rescue mission was completed.

The reptile might have strayed away from its natural habitat in search of food.

While many parts of India are battling devastating floods, several videos have emerged of crocodiles roaming freely in and around residential areas, triggering chaos.
