A science teacher started the fire on a bunsen burner with his finger by using 100,000 volts of electricity at a school in Gosford, Australia.

The teacher, Jacob Strickling, was inspired by an act he had seen on Australia's Got Talent to use sparks from the silver Vandegraaf generator to light gas coming from the burner on August 20.

Jacob commented on the experiment saying "It was quite painful as the sparks [were] a little bit like sharp pins being driven into my finger."

Inspired by a High Voltage act he had seen the night before on Australia's Got Talent, Jacob Strickling put his hand on the dome of the Vandegraaf generator and with his other hand held his finger close to the end of the Bunsen Burner. The sparks which jumped several centimeters through the air ignited the gas. It was quite painful as the sparks left his finger. a little bit like sharp pins being driven into his finger.
