This is the amazing moment a zebra in Kruger National Park in South Africa allowed an Oxpecker bird to clean her eyelashes.

The clip, filmed August 29 shows the bird pecking at the zebras eyes and clearing all of the pesky insects the zebra can’t remove.

“The zebra had her eyes closed and kept amazingly still while the bird delicately combed through the eyelashes of her right eye. Once done, the bird moved over to the left eye, doing a proper job of styling and cleaning the female zebra’s eyelashes around both eyes. It sure did look like the female zebra enjoyed the pampering!” the filmer told Newsflare.

I was driving alone through a wilderness area in the Kruger National Park when I had to stop for a herd of zebra blocking the road. The zebras were in no hurry to move, so I switched off the vehicle and waited. While patiently observing the zebras and their behavior,I noticed a few birds called oxpeckers, sitting on the zebras. The birds were searching for ticks and insects stuck on the skin and hair of the zebras. This is a beneficial relationship for both parties as the birds find food and the zebras get rid of the pesky insects stuck in the hard to reach places on their bodies. The oxpecker birds normally clean around the animal’s ears, between their legs, under their bellies and tails. My attention was drawn to one specific female zebra with one bird on the side of her head. The next moment the bird started picking incredibly close around the female’s eye. I zoomed in a little more and was amazed to see the female zebra actually allowing the bird to clean her eyelashes. The zebra had her eyes closed and kept amazingly still while the bird delicately combed through the eyelashes of her right eye. Once done, the bird moved over to the left eye, doing a proper job of styling and cleaning the female zebra’s eyelashes around both eyes. It surely did look like the female zebra enjoyed the pampering.
